I personally was shocked that a nonprofit hospital would sue patients who do not have income adequate to pay outrageous hospital charges.

I knew corporations were greedy and able to get away with it.

It was an eye opener to me.

Thank you for revealing truth

I really feel for Mr. Bagnato and Mr. Rehberg. They were only trying to let people know the truth. Instead, of everyone welcoming the truth, these two courageous people have been put through hell.

I don't understand why more isn't made of this. It is real evidence of the corrupt managements in much of our health care industry. It explains too one reason why patients are incurring unnecessary costs - they are providing for the perks of the people who run our hospitals.

This incident and the facts these men found have to be more in the public's eyes.

Thanks for the video.

I am horrified by the 'treatment' these nonprofit hospitals give - and yet not surprised! In our city of less than 150,000, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital - a private hospital- requested from the voters that citizens pay by tax increase to retrofit this hospital. The measure failed, yet now the hospital has "suddenly" come up the with money it claims it didn't have before....
I know this is a difficult road to go down, but for all of us, keep up the good work!
I wish I had the knowledge to check out this hospital and the county hospital, just to see where all the money goes. Bet I wouldn't even be let in the door!

Thank you for this exposition. I was charged $78,000 for a one night stay in the hospital and an hour in the cardiac cath operatory. I had three stindts placed and watched the whole procedure live, and laughed and joked with the cath team and MD the whole time. My insurance PAID some $51,000, and the Hospital attempted to bill me for the balance!

This occurred just after the ENRON scandal. I called the hospital to protest and was told "someone has to pay for our uninsured patients". I was incensed and likened them to Enron, and threatened to call the Calif Dept of Justice to investigate them and their billing pracitices. If I had not been a homeowner, and vulnerable to their attempted intimidation, I might have reacted differently. My Doctor told me that in Europe or India, a similar procedure would have cost about $10,000. These charges are an outrage! These people are greedy to a fault, and a reflection of the current culture of greed which has developed in the past 20 years. They never called me again and never attempted to collect.

Thank goodness that people are beginning to catch on. PLEASE continue you good works and accurate reporting practices. We, the American People, need now, more than ever, clear, concise, and focused depictions of the business practices, scams, and abuses of ordinary folks by the heatth "care" industry.

PS

I recently lost my teaching position. I paid fpr COBRA coverage fo 18 months. When my insurance lapsed, my cardiologist informed me that he could no longer see me as a patient, He said, "I'm running a business here, it's not personal". That says it all!
